Stone: Cool Only Because Ed Norton Was There

Ask anyone: I really wanted to see this movie when I saw the trailer. I mean: Ed Norton, Robert De Niro, and Milla Jovovich-- who could ask for a better trio. Lucky for me, I am part of Film Independent, which allows me to attend screenings where actors and directors are present for a Q&A session afterward. Such was the case for this movie. In fact, had it not been for this incentive, I would have left the theater feeling a bit cheated.
Synopsis: The movie is about a prisoner who wants his parole officer (De Niro) to vouch for him that he is in fact ready to be released. The prisoner, Norton, realizes he isn't successful on his own so has his wife (Jovovich) contact his parole officer and do whatever it takes. De Niro's and Jovovich's character ensue in a lusty affair which pretty much opens the gates for Norton (no pun intended).
Opinion: While I did not care much for the plot or the lack of suspense, I was not at all disappointed in the performance of all these actors. Norton as an acerbic, ebonics-speaking, cornrow-wearing bad ass was phenomenal to see (can you believe Mr. Norton said he was having trouble channeling this character until days before the shoot-- I couldn't tell); and Milla Jovovich was so sultry yet innocent, she was almost a likable adulteress. But aside from that and some pretty cool camera shots, the movie was . . . well, boring.

I'd say go see it for yourself, but Stone may NOT be playing at your local theater. Looks like too many people might have agreed with me.
