Not Much Fun Exploring Jennifer's Body

I wasn't sure what to expect from Jennifer's Body, but when I found out Diablo Cody wrote it, I figured it'd be full of witty terror, instead I found that the movie was neither here nor there.

As a thriller-comedy, the movie sits in a class of its own, you don't really get scared, but you chuckle at a line every now and then at the clever dialog. (I especially like Jennifer's response to a boy who asks her on a date to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show: "I don't like boxing movies.") But for what audiences wanted to see-- a sexy thriller with a beautiful (and hopefully naked) Megan Fox-- was not what you got, instead you get a kind of funny, metaphorical movie about carnal sexual appetites in an awkward coming of age format. This might have made a better book than movie, because then you'd slowly be able to appreciate the elements of the city, focus more on who the characters are, and relish in adjective details which might have enhanced the plot.

If I'm speaking too analytically, then let's just put it this way: the movie was not good, but I'm guessing the screenplay looked nice.
Ms. Cody is 2 for 1 now, making me curious--with trepidation--about her next project: Sweet Valley High (my beloved girlhood novels). So I guess in a sense, Jennifer's Body did scare me, because there are many ways Ms. Diablo can butcher my SVH experiences. Guess we'll just have to wait to see . . .
