Law Abiding Citizen

I kept hearing about how exciting this movie was, and I have to admit that I did not much anticipate Law Abiding Citizen even with that encouragement. Just as there are chick flicks, I anticipated that this movie would fall under the genre of dude dud.

But alas, I was wrong. This movie begins very intensely, grabbing your emotions immediately. Poor Gerard Butler, losing his family the way he did. Sympathizing with his character, you do not blame him for any of the havoc he causes. Foxx, on the other hand, you empathize with, yet kind of hate.

Why this movie wasn't just a guy movie:
  • the point of view isn't one-sided. You don't just get an action movie with a good guy and a bad guy. You actually care and want the best for both opposing characters.
  • there's a lot of emotion displayed (think award-winning style)
  • Butler starts out a sweet family man turned angry, vengeful muscular man (very nice)

In the end, somebody dies (they always do); unfortunately for me though, it was the wrong main character. You'll be torn as well as in suspense this whole movie. And aside from some not-so-clean edits here and there, I thought this movie was pretty flawless.

  1. The ending wasn't so great.

But I checked out the screenplay and it was critically different from the film, as in, Jamie Foxx wasn't a huge selfish prosecutor.

    Sweet blog btw!
