TV Talk

I admit it: I really only became interested in watching Big Love when I saw how many times the show was nominated at the Golden Globe awards. My intrigue was only solidified this Saturday when USC's creator of the television curriculum track (Pam Douglas) mentioned Big Love was an example of great writing and original tv.
I've mentioned before that I'm not as big on television as I am on movies, but I will say that if both TV and Movies had an ongoing tug of war, I'd be just a bit off-center, leaning still closer to cinema, but closer than ever to television.
Did you know that the WB refused to cast anyone over 32, which is why the Gilmore Girls mom had Rory at 16? Talk about limiting an audience. Needless to say I learned a LOT about television, albeit in 4 hours of class, and grabbed the first season of Big Love which sounds disturbing-- with Bill Paxton having 3 wives, a common practice of LSD Utah residents-- but is actually quite dynamic it all the options this show can have. I am also adding to the list of TV: CSI, Mad Men, Dexter, and Rome. Any others I'm missing?

Sadly, she never mentioned any of MY faves: Entourage, Curb, 30 Rock, or How I Met Your Mother. Looks like I may be aspiring higher couch potato creds these next few weeks trying to catch up.

  1. I would add Better off Ted to that mix. Also, Fringe and Bones. Some of my favorites to date. I like tv as much as movies, except when they cancel my fave shows.
