From the Non-Fan of Kevin Smith: Cop Out

Whoa, what?! Did Kevin Smith actually make a movie I enjoyed? Somebody, hold the phone. Even the like for Jennifer Garner failed to do the trick for me in Catch and Release. Cop Out may have been a little plot-prescribed, but the writing was funny, catchy, and clever, especially if you know your movie lines.

What is funny is mostly Tracy Morgan, whose character is a lot like his character on 30 Rock: obnoxious but tender-hearted. And Bruce Willis played the typical serious demeanor side kick to his antithesis. I guess after being on the set of Die Hard 4, Smith couldn't shake his admiration for Willis, and so it makes sense they made this movie together.

What I hated about this movie was the music scoring, although the first song opening the movie was great. I also was not too thrilled that bad guys are always minorities--(what's up with the Mexican dude NOT being the bad guy)? Guess, I should blame the writer's for that one.

The movie was funny though, had a happy ending (duh!) and was as untypical a movie for Mr. Smith, as Silent Bob talking. And though it wasn't Smith himself who wrote the movie, I can appreciate someone like him stretching their creative limbs and out of their comfort zone for a pretty cool movie.

Looks like Smith finally striked back.
