Sunshine Cleaning: Dim and Dull

I get it, after Juno won an Academy Award, everyone leaped for emotional, heartfelt, with a twist of raw humor *yawn*. The Juno era has ended, isn't it about time we move on to some original substance? I was just about to lean over mid-movie to say this very thing to my boyfriend, when I realized that he was passed out, and already in the snoring phase.

I'm not saying this was a horrible movie, it was just far-fetched and kind of stupid. I mean the conflict of the movie was that Adam's bratty ass kid was "misunderstood" and so she wanted him to go to a private school and decided to clean up death scenes to afford the cost. Riiiight. The "conflict" just didn't seem heavy enough to lead a movie. Why not just discipline the damn kid like any normal single parent? See what happens when writers to try to get too creative? The movie also seemed too loaded with details that were never really uncovered or concluded. I felt like I was watching a movie that was inspired by a book, because there seemed to still be loose ends by the end of the movie.

In conclusion, I guess the protagonist gains some self-esteem and a little sense of self, and the two sisters, who seemed distant in the beginning, go back to putting distance between them. Blah, blah, blah, blah who really cares, this Sunshine shed no light on me.
