Seems that Hugh Jackman's worries were put to rest this weekend when his Wolverine dominated the box office. I always knew he had nothing to worry about when I saw the leaked version. Yes, I saw it—so sue me. Who didn't see it if they could? I take that back, I actually know some people who anticipated it so much that they actually did not want to ruin the legitimate experience of greased version. The movie series has such a large following, a good portion of them had to be loyal enough to wait.
Ok, so I watched, like two weeks ago. I liked, a lot. I didn't expect to, all crushing aside. I guess what I appreciated most was the writing. Essentially, almost every line in there moved the movie along. What I mean by that is: every line succinctly provided a new essential detail, cramming in a complex plot and back story. Very smart on the writers parts. But I am biased; of course I would glorify the screen writers. The acting was also impressive. I like Schreiber, he looked so sinister that I almost forgot he was the sweet baby daddy of Naomi Watts. However, one crucial element that I am ashamed to say I can't applaud is the special effects, because I didn't get to see them.
Cheaters never prosper they say. Well, there might be some truth to that. In my shady viewing of the movie, I acknowledged that I probably missed out on the most sovereign feature Wolverine had to offer: the special effects editing. The same feature that was missing in the leaked version of the movie, was the chief reason for wanting to watch the finished version. No one likes to feel like they missed out on something better, but that's what I felt watching the movie two weeks ago: "ugh, I totally need to watch the real version now". I bet this thought went through a million other sly minds like mine, ultimately resulting in us wanting to watch again, and more importantly: to pay for it.
So who really lost out in the leak? Not Jackman and the other Wolverine peeps. If anything, the sneak peekers who lost time watching what they will inevitably watch twice. Guess you really do get what you pay for.
