The Proposal: Even the Writer Needs Security

I'm not a romantic comedy kind of girl, let's just put that out on the table first. So in order for me to even become interested in one, I have to hear from respected sources that it was not a fluke. Essentially, if I can predict the outcome of the movie just by watching the previews (which is usually the case), then I'm wasting my time watching it to begin with.

Fact: I like Ryan Reynolds and I like Sandra Bullock.
Fiction: The two together made a believable romantic comedy.

Three years as co-workers, and in three days they supposedly fall in love. I guess that's not too far fetched of an idea, but on screen the match just doesn't fit. Because both reign as comediennes, the amorous tone seemed forced. Though Bullock balanced the bitchiness with the tenderness her character required, I don't see a three day turnover for her to soften up and want to marry somebody. I blame the writers for that one. Reynolds was sarcastic and sweet, but that's normal for him. Casting an ex girlfriend for him did not help my position in this movie. If anything, I believe his character still loved her.

Like I said, the recipe for this movie followed all the others, just new actors, new plot. I have yet to find another "Love Actually" or "Best Friend's Wedding" that throws you a few surprises. The good thing is that my expectation was low to begin with, so I wasn't as disappointed as I could have been (I nearly balled from the miserable performance of "He's Just Not That Into You"). I wouldn't watch this movie again if somebody begged me, even down on one knee.
